“G’day Philip Tong here, Bondi Dermatologist at Dermatology Junction. Today I’ll be discussing sweat. Sweating is a big problem in Australia and something that dermatologists like myself see on a daily basis.

Now what is sweating? Well,  sweating can affect many parts of the body ranging from the face, the hands, the feet to all over your body. As dermatologists and other healthcare practitioners, it’s up to us to figure out whether this is normal sweating or abnormal sweating? So make sure you always consult with a healthcare practitioner like your GP to make sure that it is just excessive sweating and not due to something else, such as a thyroid problem or diabetes.

If it’s just sweating, that’s something we deal with on a day-to-day basis. You can begin with treatments like tablets, injections, or even consider surgery, but as a dermatologist, I prefer options that are simple and convenient. It’s great to have two choices available because some of my patients prefer the ease of a roll-on, especially for under the arms, while others find a spray more convenient—particularly for areas like the face where excess sweating can be an issue.

So why is aluminium free deodorant so important as a dermatologist? Well a lot of my patients have sensitive skin so it’s really important we recommend products that could be suitable for patients that potentially may get irritation and hence an aluminium free product such as a spray or roll on is generally desirable and something that I advocate for.

Another reason is that people ask ‘is aluminium free as good as aluminium containing antiperspirant deodorants?’ Well, it’s been clinically proven to be the case

and Dermal Therapy makes the effort to do the appropriate clinical studies in order to test that.”
