Dr. Philip Tong’s Background

Dr. Tong holds a PhD in biomedical imaging and skin immunology from the Centenary Institute, where he continues to lead groundbreaking research on skin imaging and inflammation. His research collaborations span globally, working with teams in Denmark, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States to map the skin immune system in 3D. He previously served as a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney but now holds an academic position in UNSW.

With a deep commitment to patient care, Dr. Tong’s clinical interests include acne, eczema, psoriasis, hyperhidrosis, skin cancer, and healthy skincare. His dedication to excellence and research has been recognised through numerous awards and grants, underscoring his role as a thought leader in dermatology. Dr. Tong’s approach balances advanced science with practical, patient-centred solutions, making him a trusted voice in the field.

Although his early research focus was in melanoma, biomedical imaging and skin immunology, he now focuses his energy in utilising technology to improve dermatology access to patients, GPs and pharmacists. He does this through his clinical practice Dermatology Junction and a virtual care platform called DermScreen.
